This is just to say...

...the next entry will be friends-only. Not for anything exciting or salacious, but because it's academic and I don't want people bogarting my ideas.

Anyway, today is Mardi Gras. I hope everyone's having fun. I'm having people over tonight and we're going to hopefully all have a good time.

In the Daily Nebraskan yesterday, the headline article was about how the non-tenured faculty here will be more at risk for layoffs as a result of the extra budget-cutting currently looming over our heads. As the article mentions, most of the women and minorities in the faculty here are the non-tenured ones. And, of course, as a teaching assistant, I'm one of the most non-tenured of them all.

Immediately under that article was this one, in which various athletes pleaded with the Regents to say "Look, look, we are serious about our learning, really!" Do note that the article makes reference to a proposed state law that would give college football players a salary.

So, to sum up: Athletes do more for the university than I do, apparently.
