What I tried to say on Feb. 27th, naomikritzer said it much better.


This also, in a bit of a roundabout way, sheds a little light on the huge problem I have with "Harrison Bergeron." ("If EVERYBODY is special, then NOBODY is special, and THAT'S why we shouldn't automatically treat The Other(*) like they deserve respect!") I have a huger entry about just that subject later, but it's still all foggy in my head.

(*) The Other = big concept in literary and/or sociocultural theory. Basically, it means "People Who Are Different Than Me," for certain (i.e., white, hetero, male, etc.) values of "Me." But saying "The Other" just takes far less time.
