This means that I have to write a 60-page scholarly paper about science & nature in Hawthorne & Melville between now and the beginning of April, and another 60-page scholarly paper about the driving ideals in antebellum American writing between now and July. And both papers must be suitable for publication in a journal. (Plus, y'know, all the other piddly stuff to do in the winter and spring, like teach two sections of Comp 2 and finish taking the classes in my collateral field and translate an Enlightenment French naturalist.)
I would love to be able to step outside of time for a bit and just take a year or so off when I'm all done with this and pick up with my dissertation right where I left it.
In other news, I'd love to go see Master and Commander this weekend, but I've got too much to do. So I think I'll see how I'm doing next weekend.
